Sometimes healthy raccoons are active during the day, especially in spring and early summer when they are taking care of their young. If the animal appears to be sick, acting aggressively, stumbling, disoriented or showing signs of paralysis, it might mean it has rabies. Call the local police or animal control officer, do not touch the afflicted animal and keep your pets and children away from it. If it is an emergency and the police cannot respond, call DEP emergency dispatch at 860-424-3333 to reach a conservation officer.
